Based on the 1930 play "Waterloo Bridge" by Robert E. Sherwood. A ballet dancer meets and falls in love with a corporal but he is shipped off for the D-Day landing. When she gets word that he was killed she begins working as a prostitute, though he is alive and returns to London to find her.
