Published in the same year sliced bread was invented in Missouri, the booklet was written by spokesperson and author for Hostess products Alice Adams Proctor. She was, in fact, a fictitious person, once described as "sort of like Betty Crocker but without a portrait." Chapters included recipes for luncheon sandwiches, fancy party sandwiches, sandwich plate dinners, etc.
