First edition; stab stitched set, 2 vols. in 24 juan, 9.5" x 5.5"; text in Traditional Chinese; 18 maps in text, most full-page; original printed paper wrappers; light soiling to wrappers, text clean and sound, near fine. Number 2 in the Taiwan series published by the Committee. Hangchun County is a historical county around what is now the Southern Taiwanese county of Pingtung. The Chronicle was originally compiled in 1894 by Chen Wenwei, the magistrate of that country, but its publication was interrupted with the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, and was not published until 1951, when it was rediscovered (truncated) in a cache of documents held by the Academia Sinica. It consists of information taken from a year's worth of interviews, including information on history, geography, aboriginal languages, customs etc. (Inventory #: 64985)
