STRAIGHT Vol. 1 No. 1

By Kosuth, Joseph
New York: Visual Arts Press, 1968. First edition. Very good minus.. Rare single-issue publication by the American conceptual artist, issued as a single-sheet newsletter with a fold-out anti-war poster printed on the verso. Issued under the auspices of New York's School of the Visual Arts, where Kosuth had just ascended from student to faculty member, STRAIGHT included contributions by Bernard Bihari, Mel Bochner, Dan Graham, Christine Kozlov, Robert Mangold, Steve Poleskie, Jonathan Pontell, Michael Rinaldi, Peter Robbins, Jerome Rothenberg, Frank Lincoln Viner, and Diane Wakoski; and an editorial by Kosuth collaged out of 27 quotations by figures from Oscar Wilde to Frank Stella. We trace only one or two in the trade; OCLC locates just one holding (MoMA). A rare piece from this important and influential artist. 10'' x 9'' (folded). Original 27'' x 20'' coated sheet, folded in sixths. Black and white illustrations. Light dampstaining and rippling, minor toning and edgewear. Bit of loss, scuffing to poster side.
