1984. GRAVES, Michael. The Great Gatsby. By F. Scott Fitzgerald. 179, [3] pp. Illustrated with 97 photo-engravings of line drawings by Graves. 8vo., bound in 3/4 green cloth, illustrated paper boards, in a green cloth slipcase. San Francisco: The Arion Press, 1984. Michael Graves, the well-known architect from Princeton, NJ, drew sketches specifically for this book of East and West Egg and New York. Not surprisingly, the drawings do not depict the characters of the novel, but rather the buildings and grounds, the furniture, landscaping, automobiles, telephones, fixtures and cocktail glasses which fill Fitzgerald's classic story of the Gilded Age. Also included is the gas station and the swimming pool where the characters meet their end. One of 400 copies, printed at the Arion Press on French moldmade buff paper, signed by Graves and accompanied by an original drawing by Graves inscribed to the distinguished book collector Bill Barlow. Arion Checklist 15.
