Initially opening at the Theatre Royal in London in 1981, the play made its Broadway debut on December 12, 1983, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran for 65 performances. Basis for the 1985 film directed by Joseph Losey, starring Sarah Miles and Vanessa Redgrave.
