First edition of Official Letters of the Military and Naval Officers of the United States During the War with Great Britain in the Years 1812, 13, 14, and 15.. Octavo, 510pp. Original brown calf, title in gilt over red morocco label affixed to spine. All edges dyed yellow. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, covers slightly bowed. Calf is worn along edges with bumped corners. Faint foxing throughout, primarily to endpapers. (Howes B722) (Sabin 7411) (Shoemaker 11979) Inscribed by the previous owner on the front free endpaper: "William R. Wendt / Colonel United States Marine Corps. / Armed Force Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia / January, 1952." Brigadier General William R. Wendt was the recipient of the Legion of Merit for meritorious service in the Pacific Theater of Operations in 1945. Wendt served in the Fourth Marine Division, then as First Assistant Naval Attaché in China. After the war, he returned to the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.
