Englischer Garten / Jardin Anglais / English Park
- [Austria?]: n.p., 1830
[Austria?]: n.p., 1830. Very good.. Gorgeous peepshow depicting couples, families, children, soldiers and others walking and playing in an early 19th century English garden - housed in a remarkable rainbow-colored slipcase. Throughout are vignettes of children playing, statues, adults promenading (and drinking), horse drawn carriages, and more. This peepshow is a slight variation of Cats. 8 and 9 in the Gestetner catalogue, which were frequently issued under this title with similar, interchangeable elements. A lovely depiction of the outdoor social life of the English just before the Victorian era. Scarce. OCLC locates just five holdings across two variations (neither this one). 5'' x 6.15'' (folded). Single peepshow with 6 panels (including cover and and backdrop) opening to 19 inches. In original polychrome slipcase with printed label and stamped monogram ("LF"). Hand-colored engravings throughout. Minor rubbing, edgewear, toning. Overall bright and sound.
