For decades he was head of the Admiralty record office and he developed a system of organizing and recording valuable Admiralty documents which otherwise would have been lost. This present work is a history of Elizabethan naval exploration, with chapters on Frobisher, Davis, Gilbert, Hawkins, Drake, Cavendish, Raleigh, and others. Bound in 19th century half calf over marbled boards, lightly worn. All edges marbled. A nice copy.. 13 x 20.5 cm. xvi, xvi, 495 pp.
