Two Weeks in The Yosemite and Vicinity
- New York: Phillips & Hunt, 1884
New York: Phillips & Hunt, 1884. 8vo, original printed wrappers, 66 pp. Later printing, with 1884 printed on the upper wrapper and 100 titles in the Home College Series listed on the lower wrapper. An entertaining account of an extensive hike into Yosemite written by a Methodist clergyman. Buckley's trip spanned May and June of 1871, seeing him summit or explore various peaks and valleys, including the Mariposa and Calaveras groves, as well as the North Dome and Liberty Cap. Interspersed with his remembrances of the Yosemite wilds are lightly humorous observations of his traveling companions, which give the account the flavor of the era and imbue it with Buckley's affable personality.
Illustrated on the inside of the upper wrapper with an engraved scene of Cathedral Rock and inside the lower with a view of The Cap of Liberty and Nevada Falls. "Buckley and his party spent nearly three weeks of the summer of 1871 visiting Yosemite Valley and the Calveras and Mariposa groves. He was a keen observer and his descriptions of the Coulterville Trail and the pioneer hotels are quite entertaining"--Currey & Kruksa #26.
CONDITION: Good, chipping to the spine, both wrappers firmly attached, toning and edgewear.
