Abolitionist and supporter of the revolution and attended the Fête de la Fédération on the one year anniversary of the storming of the Bastille. She spent most of her later life in France and was a saloniere, hosting Mary Wollstonecroft and Thomas Paine. A Girondist following the massacres of 1792, she was jailed during the terror though allowed to continue her work translating French works into English.
