Antlers Hotel Facing Pike's Peak, Colorado Springs
- The Antlers, [ca.1915]
Handsomely illus. brochure for the Antler's Hotel in Colorado Springs, expounding on the attractions of the site, views and building. The Antlers sat at the junction of Pike's Peak Avenue and Cascade Avenue, surrounded by acres of garden and park, and just a few minutes walk from all the railroad stations (six trunk lines of railway). Unobstructed views of Pikes Peak and a well-appointed, fire-proof building added to the beauty and comfort. "A complete and modern bath department is conducted in the hotel for the ladies" and the Antlers Hotel provided an fleet of black taxicabs for touring the area.
The original Antlers was opened in 1883 by General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs. The hotel burned to the ground in 1898 and rebuilt in 1901. This brochure with its fire-proofed building is presumed to represent the rebuilt hotel. The second hotel was torn down in 1964 and replaced by the current Wyndham hotel.
CONDITION: Very good, wear at extremities, light rubbing on covers.
