This is the first edition of one of the most popular children's books - author Thompsons calls it "A book for precocious grown ups" - of the mid-20th century. The dust jacket shows light wear and one repaired tear along top edge. On the inside of the dust jacket a light water stain runs along the spine, which also shows along the backstrip of the book's cream-colored binding. There is no staining on the exterior of the jacket or on the interior of the book.. 19.5 x 28 cm. 64, (1) pp. duotone illustrations throughout.
