by CAMP, Walter, revised by
New York: A.G. Spalding, 1891. Softcover. Very Good. First edition. Small octavo. Unpaginated. Illustrated. Stapled. Lacking front wrap? Small chips at the corners of a few pages, very good. Camp was the Coach of the Yale football team and probably did more than anyone else to popularize the game and to shape the rules as they now stand including cutting the number of players to 11 (from 15), instituting the quarterback position, creating a scrimmage to institute play (rather than a "scrum") and designing the "gridiron" pattern of the field. Additionally he was probably the first national figure to promote personal physical fitness, especially during the First World War.
