Fine, horizontal fold lines to letter. $1,500. * The photograph was taken on the day of the San Francisco parade celebrating MacArthur's return to the United States. He had previously been relieved of duties by President Truman for demanding China's surrender in the Korean War without presidential authorization. Seated in an automobile (part of a motorcade), MacArthur is shown in profile, wearing his signature Field Marshall-style hat and trench coat. He is seated next to Elmer E. Robinson, the San Francisco mayor, and Earl Warren, the former governor of California and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, both of whom are looking toward the camera. Warren's letter thanks McVay for good wishes sent to Warren upon his retirement in 1969.
