New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1906 - 1913. Limited edition, one of 1250 sets, this hand numbered 61. Twenty-six volumes, I through XXVI (of 28), octavos (8.75" x 6.25"), variously paginated, each volume illustrated with plates from paintings, engravings, etchings, drawings, photos, maps, etc., including frontispieces, with tissue-guards. Publisher's three-quarter crushed dark blue morocco & marbled paper over boards by Haddon & Company (signed), the spines in six compartments separated by raised bands, lettered or decorated in gilt in all compartments. Top edges gilt, the others uncut.
Occasional very minor rubbing mostly affecting raised bands, one volume with slight wear at the top of the spine, a bit of toning to marbled paper, hinge started in volume one (still secure), otherwise near fine.
Issued serially, the first 23 volumes were published in 1906, volumes 24 & 25 in 1910, & volume 26 in 1913. Volumes 27 & 28 (not offered here) were not published until 1920 (per Pacific Book Auctions).
