8vo (9 ¼" x 6"); 183pp; blue cloth over board, blind stamped decorative borders and cartouche to front and rear, gilt-stamped lettering and decorations and Native American figure with a bow on spine; pale yellow eps, gift inscription on ffep dated Feb. 22, 1887; foxing throughout with mineral staining on some hand-colored plates; front top hinge starting, light shelf wear; very good minus. An in-depth report on the natural history and peoples of the State of New York. Pages 65-95 comprise the "Report to the Regents of the University, Upon the Articles Furnished to The Indian Collection" by Lewis H. Morgan and is accompanied by 18 hand-colored illustrated plates including one fold-out. Pages 101-105 contain the report titled "Notice of Several Ancient Remains of Art, in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties" by Franklin B. Hough, M.D., and is accompanied by 5 maps. In the report on "Mineralogy of New-York; Comprising Notices of the Additions which have been made since 1842" by Lewis C. Beck, M.D., illustrations of minerals are included in the text. Pages 175-183 address the "Description of New Species of Fossils, and Observations Upon Some Other Species Previously Not Well Know, from the Trenton Limestone" by James Hall includes 5 hand-colored plates of fossils including one fold-out.
