[TRAVEL] [PHOTOGAPHS] [TOURIST]. 12mo oblong (7 ¼" x 10 ¼"); [12] leaves; textured red cloth over beveled boards, double black stamped fillet on front, gilt lettering; all edges gilt; white satin ribbed endpapers; 12 albumen photographic prints laid-on board with titles and signed "J.V."; boards soiled and edges scuffed, fading to imprinted date on front board, lightly age toned leaves; very good. A nice photographic album most likely sold to the tourist trade of the Scottish islands Iona and Staffa by the Scottish firm of Valentine & Sons located in Dundee. James Valentine (1815-1879) founded Valentine's of Dundee in 1851 and was later joined by his sons. Many of his photographs of Scotland are housed at the University of St. Andrews. Valentine's two sons expanded the business in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to include picture postcards.
