Black leather binding with embossed decorated boards and gilt title on the front cover. Gilt title on the spine. Ex-library copy from the "Fitzroy" library with oval stamps on the right front flyleaf, verso of the frontispiece, title page, contents page, a few of the text pages, and the rear end sheet. The front cover has been reattached to the text and is barley holding. The rear board is detached. Cracked spine. An inscription on the right front flyleaf reads, " "Presented to the Fitzroy Public Library by A. J. Mason per favor of T. A. Ewing Esq Mayor" The folding map is in poor to fair condition with an approx. 11" tape repair to the verso (no significant loss of content). A list of Society of California Pioneers is located on the last 3 pages. Poor to fair condition.
