Chilocco, Ok: The Chilocco Indian School Print Shop, 1951. Very good.. [72]pp. Profusely illustrated with photographs throughout. Original gold lamé textured wrappers, blue titles on front cover. Minor wear and rubbing to wrappers, small abrasion for removed sticker on front wrapper. Ink ownership inscription on front flyleaf, reading: "Mr. & Mrs. C. Havis Watson Home Mission Council of North America." Internally clean. The yearbook for 1951 at the Chilocco Indian Agricultural School in Chilocco, Oklahoma. The work contains typical yearbook fare such as dedications, portraits of the students and staff, class histories and highlights, portraits of sports teams, school activities such as the student council and music department, and so forth. Atypical of school yearbooks, the present work also contains illustrated sections describing life in the girls' and boys' dormitories for assimilated Native Americans, their vocational training through the agricultural and home economics programs, and also a section of portraits and text memorializing the Navajo elementary school students who took part in a special program at the school. OCLC reports just a few physical or digital copies of any annual yearbook from the Chilocco Indian School, and no explicit holdings listing this 1951 example.
