First Edition, first issue with November 1863 ads at back listing this title as "Nearly ready" vs. priced as in later examples. Octavo (8.5cm); publisher's textured green cloth (no priority established among colors) with gilt lettering to spine; [viii],225pp+22ads; tipped-in vignette title page with tissue guard; gilt top edges. Boards edgeworn with bumping and some exposure at corners and spine ends; rather heavy soiling and smudging to cloth with dulling to spine lettering. Spine a bit cocked. Marginal dampstain to flyleaf; tissue guard heavily foxed and vignette title moderately so. Shallow chipping along edges of advert catalog at back as if roughly opened. Christmas 1863 gift inscription on flyleaf, else interior unmarked.. Binding is sound.
