Hill's Toledo Zoo, framed print signed on at [Ohio]. Ready-to-hang frame. Gerald C. Hill, brings more than thirty years of experience in advertising and graphic design to the world of fine art. His technical expertise along with his finely tuned âeyeâ for beauty and interest in a wide range of subject matter has earned him a loyal following. Mr. Hill is known as both a âDown Eastâ painter and also as a Midwest Landscape artist. Born in the Midwest for many years he has been a pleasure sailor on the Great Lakes. Known there for the consistently high quality of his art he has been awarded numerous regional and national awards. His original works of art are highly prized and can be found in private collections throughout the United States and in many foreign countries including South America, Japan, Korea, Europe and Africa. His love of the water has carried him far beyond the Midwest â he is equally at home on the Atlantic Coast. There he searches out the rich legacy of the seas, the boats, the buildings, the lighthouses, the sea life and the people. All are subject matter for his paintings. Spending much of his time painting âon locationâ, visitors to the coast often enjoy watching him âin actionâ. He explains his love of the water; âIt is ever changing. Predictable, yet always surprising; Untamable, whether calm or raging. When sailing on it, or painting with it⦠it is always fascinatingâ. Mr. Hill is considered a watercolor purist seldom using black or white pigments. The bright whites seen in the paintings are achieved by allowing the white paper to show through. The dark shades, while at first seeming to be black, are achieved through a masterful blending of many colors. Every brushstroke in his original watercolors is artistically made. In this way âtransparentâ pigments are built up on the surface of the paper to create an image and a mood. Look closely at Mr. Hillâs paintings. Youâll recognize his masterfull ability to capture the spirit as well as the likeness of a subject. - Sunnyland Antique and Classic Boat Society
