A charming tale by Frances Hodgson Burnett, who is best remembered for her classic children's books such as The Secret Garden. Bound in blue cloth with decorative cover in black and gilt. Covers frayed and worn around edges and along spine, corners bumped. Text pages are generally clean, with smudges to pastedowns and endpapers. A few small marks along the fore-edge margins. With a frontispiece illustration titled Edith, but is from an original photograph of child actress little Elsie Leslie. There is also a facsimile of a letter she sent to the publishers regarding the story and use of her image. With thirteen black and white illustrations by Canadian artist and illustrator Henry Sandham. Gift inscription and childish ownership signature to free front endpaper. Very good condition. Measures 6 x 7.25 inches. 64 pages plus one page publisher's ad. CHILD/050224.
