Printed glossy boards (the first edition had printed mat paper covered boards). Some modest rubbing on the boards, very good or better in rubbed, very good dust jacket. A collection of hymns and songs by and about African-Americans, with commentary and contributions from Alain Locke, Eubie Blake, Langston Hughes, Edwin C. Hill, George L. Bullock and many others. This copy boldly Inscribed by W.C. Handy in his characteristic scrawl dated in 1954, somewhat obscuring the recipient. Laid in is a business card for Billy Elmore's Melody Boys from New Your City, and it is conceivable that Elmore is the recipient.
