By ART & PROJECT, bookseller
A4 letterhead, printed on both sides, folded for mailing, postmarked. Amsterdam: May 1971.

The very rare first booklist sent out by the Art & Project gallery. Adriaan van Ravesteijn and Geert van Beijeren, founders of the space, had formed Art & Project not only as a traditional gallery but more as an “information center” purveying the latest printed matter related to contemporary art. In the early ‘70s there were a small handful of galleries and stores that in a focused manner stocked artists’ books, magazines, and exhibition catalogues by contemporary artists; this vacuum would be partially filled mid-decade by Art Metropole, Other Books and So, and Printed Matter.

With this booklist Art & Project offers a most interesting selection of publications, including those by artists such as Bas Jan Ader, stanley brouwn, David Lamelas, Sol LeWitt, Peter Roehr, Ed Ruscha, and Lawrence Weiner. They also stock issues of Avalanche, Art-Language, and Studio International, as well as the seminal exhibition catalogues of Conceptual art, like Information, Lippard’s 2.972.453, Claura’s 18 Paris IV, etc.

A fine mailed copy. Hand-addressed to journalist Lily van Ginneken.
