A French botanist and engineer, Duhamel was probably the first to distinguish clearly between alkalis, potash and soda. His continuing energy in experiments in vegetable physiology gained him admission to the Academy in 1728. This work contains translations by John Mills of his "Traite de la Culture des Terres," as well as contributions by others. Index. KRESS 6014.
