New York: Simon and Schuster, 1946. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo., 468pp. Beautiful First Edition of this anthology of stories from some of the best writers in the genre who wrote for the Black Mask pulp including Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Paul Cain, Raoul Whitfield and several others. Bound in green cloth with titles in gilt on spine. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no wear or toning. Perhaps a touch of softness at the crown but minor. Unfaded black top-stain. Remarkably well-preserved. Very attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($3.00), has some mild rubbing to spine ends and top of the hinges. A touch of soiling to rear panel but is fresh and bright with no creases, chipping or tears. A gorgeous collectable copy.
