First Book-Form Edition, rewritten and enlarged, of Séguin's paper titled "Spinal paralysis of the adult." Séguin, a student of Itard and Esquirol, emigrated from France to the United States and became one of the leading American neurologists of his day. "His lectures as early as 1870 contain an approach to neurology that was not taken by others until the 1880s or 1890s" (McHenry, Garrison's History of Neurology, p. 332).
