- Heavy Card, made to look like calf
- New York , 1910
New York, 1910. Heavy Card, made to look like calf. Very Good. A most unusual trade catalogue, for something that today would seem extremely narrow when excepting baseball caps, men's hats are seldom seen, but once no man was without a hat when outside, and hats, especially boaters, and boaters worn by college students, would have colorful bands. N.d., circa 1910. Folded card sheet, or four unpaginated pages, including front and back. Closed, 31.5 by 20 cm. Open, 40 cm. wide. With twenty actual samples of the hat bands symbolizing twenty different colleges. Included are most of the Ivies -- Harvard, Yale, Princeton, U. of P., Cornell -- there are none for Brown and Columbia -- N.Y.U., University of Michigan, Temple, U. of Texas, Ohio State, U. of California (in fact two for California), Johns Hopkins, Fordham, Michigan State, U. of Kansas, U. of Minnesota, Notre Dame, U. of Tennessee and Stanford. The samples are each 5 by 4.5 cm. Light film of soil on outside, some of which can be removed by eraser with effort. Closed tear, about 5 cm of a jagged line, all pages in upper center. Minor dog ear.
