By AUCTION CATALOGUE: (BRUUN-NEERGAARD, Tonnes Christian)
viii, 120, 7 pp. price-list. 8vo, 19th-cent. red morocco-backed marbled boards, spine gilt, marbled end-papers. Paris: Gendron & Regnault-Delalande, 1814.

Scarce Napoleonic-era sale catalogue, with contemporary price annotations in the margins and the printed list of results bound-in. This copy, in a tasteful red morocco binding, was once in the library of conservateur at the Chateau de Versailles and collector Louis Clément de Ris (1820-82), who has inscribed his name on the recto (dated “1864”) of the first blank leaf.

Bruun-Neergaard (1776-1824), of Danish descent, spent much of his life in Paris and was chamberlain to the royal court from 1800. He amassed an extensive collection of drawings which he was forced to sell due to the enormous expenses incurred by the publication of his 1812 Voyage pittoresque et historique du nord de l’Italie. This catalogue has a total of 505 lots, with an index at the end.

A fine copy with distinguished provenance. Stamp of the Bibliothèque Heim to verso of title.

❧ Lugt 8580.
