This publication records the text of Ford's address to the Republican National Convention, Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan, July 14, 1980. Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. (1913-2006) served as the 38th president of the United States from 1974 to 1977, replacing Richard Nixon after the Watergate scandal. During his time in office "Ford continued as he had in his Congressional days to view himself as 'a moderate in domestic affairs, a conservative in fiscal affairs, and a dyed-in-the-wool internationalist in foreign affairs' " (White House).
