Printed letter and accompanying illustrated brochure sent to a young woman in Waco, Texas c.1969, promoting careers and "A world of opportunity for young women in the U.S. Air Force". Secured from a newspaper ad, the letter and brochure paint a picture of higher pay, job security, advancement, varied social life, and "attractive clothes" in the form of a uniform that is "feminine, yet practical". The brochure features images of young, attractive, and capable young women (all White, with one Black woman) on the job in their uniforms. Includes a tear-off blank reply card. Brochure measures approx. 8.5" by 3.5" folded, letter measures approx. 10.5" by 8". Typewritten address at head of letter of Sue Addie Harris of Waco, Texas. The Vietnam War provided expanded opportunities for women in the Air Force. In 1967, some ceilings were removed that had previously prevented some promotions, and in 1969 women were allowed to join the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps.
