B. R. Prideaux for chemistry; contemporary full red calf, rebacked, old gilt-decorated spine laid down, morocco label; spine darkened; good, sound, and clean. Edmund Brydges Rudhall Prideaux (1878-1946) was born in Barbados, "educated at Auckland Grammar School and Canterbury University, New Zealand. He excelled at studies of the classics and science. In June 1900 Canterbury University conferred on him a senior scholarship in Latin. He moved to London in 1901 at 23. He then moved to a posting in Edinburgh at the Heriot Watt College, then moved to Liverpool University in 1909. Dr Prideaux was both a lecturer to senior science students, and a researcher. In 1913 he was at the Battersea Polytechnic, then in 1914 the University College of Nottingham. During his New Zealand years he spent time researching Kauri gum resin, and continued researching resins in London, before turning his attention to the study of fluorine and its compounds where he discovered new compounds. This lead to his attaining a Doctor of Science degree at London University" (wikitree). He is the author of numerous papers and text books in the chemistry realm. "Narrative of the author's travels in the heart of Asia. The story begins his travel in Manchuria, then continued to the Gobi desert. From Yarkand he crossed the Mustagh Pass in the Karakoram, and descended the Baltoro glacier; then he reached Kashmir through Baltistan. In 1889 he achieved his 2nd mission to the Yarkand and Shaksgam rivers; Aghil Pass Shaksgam river discoveries of Gasherbrum and Urdok glaciers - Sarpo Laggo river - exploring of Pamma Mustagh then Ilisu Pass - Taghdumbash Pamir - Tashklugan Mintaka Pass Hunza Gilgit. Then he came to Kashgar with G. Macartney in 1890, and explored the Pamir plateau in the next year" (Yakushi). Yakushi Y27a.
