Mise en Garde, Daniel Buren

By BUREN, Daniel
[1] leaf, 13, 20, 14 pp. 4to, printed softcover, staple-bound (lower cover coming loose). Antwerp: A 37 90 89, 1969.

An interesting copy of this rare Daniel Buren (b. 1938) publication, from the library of Swedish curator Olle Granath (b. 1940) and with a typewritten and signed letter from the artist bound-in. WorldCat records only three examples of this title in North American institutions. This book was published by Kasper König’s Antwerp shortlived gallery A 37 90 89. It contains Buren’s polemical French essay that appeared in the Konzeption / Conception exhibition catalogue, here presented with English and German translations. Buren, after crossing out portions of the introduction, sent this “first proof” (“première épreuve”) to Granath in November 1969 for the curator’s review.

In near fine condition; a little sunned and minuscule dampstaining. Some annotations in the text. Granath’s ownership inscription to upper cover.
