First printing of Brown's glowing alphabet book, a sequence of exquisitely colored woodcuts of animals and the natural world. Brown, a graduate of the New York State College for Teachers (later SUNY Albany) worked as a high school teacher and children's librarian for several years while writing and illustrating; over the course of her career she garnered three Caldecott Medals and was a Caldecott finalist for six other books.
