Leaflet; 9 x 6; single sheet, pp. [2]; cream stock, printed in dark-blue; several faint crease lines, else minor wear; in very good condition. The Catholic Colored High School began its life as the St. Augustine School in 1921, uder St. Augustine Church in Louisville, Kentucky, the latter the oldest African-American Catholic church in the city and one of the first six in the country. Starting in the 1870s, the money for the church and the school would be raised by Father John Lancaster Spalding (1840 - 1916) - first Bishop of Peoria, author, and advocate for higher education. The high school would close down in 1958.
