Kernan advertising poster on linen-backed paper featuring a jovial and weathered sailor with a coil of rope at hand and his green parrot on a spool of the featured product, 30" w x 50 " h, with narrow wood slats at each end and wood slats hanging rear, eye-hook hanger top center, Kernan's signature in the print lower left corner. Very Good, stains verso, slight surface wear to image in keeping with age. Joseph Francis Kernan (1878-1958) was noted American illustrator and artist whose works were seen on nearly every major magazine in the first half of the 20th century. He did the covers for 36 issues of the Saturday Evening Post between 1924 and 1936. He also did a number of advertising assignments for companies such as Fisk and Lambert, International Harvester, Fisk Tires, and the Columbian Rope Company. The Columbian Rope Company was founded in 1903 by Colonel Edward Dickinson Metcalf, and became one of the largest and most productive cordage manufacturers in the United States. It lasted as a company until 2002, when it was sold to Unicord International. .
