In 1960, April Ashley was a successful fashion model with appearances in British Vogue and movie star prospects. It all changed when a personal acquaintance sold a story to tabloid media which publicly outed Ashley as a trans woman. Ashley's biography tells about her early life and abuse that she suffered as a closeted trans woman, her time in the Navy, work as an exotic dancer (truncated) at Le Carrousel de Paris, transitional surgery in Morocco, and her marriage to British Aristocrat Arthur Corbett which was annulled in 1970 on the grounds that Ashley was biologically male. In the book Ashley reclaims her identity and speaks candidly about her experiences and struggles as a openly trans woman. Ashley was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2012 in recognition of her trans activism. Some pencil marks to front endpaper. Overall very good condition.
