Minor edge wear and rubbing. Occasional foxing and toning. An important study by two notable Latin American historians. The first part of the work was written in Rome by Father Andrés Cavo, a member of the Jesuit order, who served as a missionary with the Nayar Indians until 1767 and who had to leave New Spain due to a decree of expulsion from the Jesuits. He passed away in 1803. The second part and the supplement were written by Carlos María de Bustamante based on his research in the National Archives, taking up the story of Father Cavo starting with the decree of expulsion of the Jesuits and culminating with the entry of Iturbide to Mexico City in 1821. The book also contains details of colonial life not found in any other source. Cavo reveals in various features his alignment with a separate Mexican nationality, rather than Spanish or New Spanish. OCLC reports only one copy in the United States, at the University of Minnesota, and a half dozen institutional holdings in Germany and Spain.
