Dayton, Ohio: The Winters National Bank & Trust Co, 1943. Signed Check. Paper. Near fine. Orville Wright signed check to the Dayton Power and Light Company.. Check measures 8.75" x 3.25", and is dated May 14, 1943. The check is stamped on the verso by The Dayton Power Company. Includes the expected cancellation stamps and punctures. The check was written by Orville's longtime personal secretary, Mabel Beck, and signed by Orville Wright on the front signature line. Orville Wright (1871-1948), born in Dayton, Ohio, was one of the pioneering aviators who, along with his brother Wilbur, invented and flew the first powered airplane. The Wright brothers conducted much of their early research and experiments in their bicycle shop in Dayton, eventually leading to the historic first flight in 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Wright Brothers returned to Dayton, where they continued to work on the Wright Flyer II and other patented aviation technologies.
