Kawaiisu: A Grammar and Dictionary with Texts

  • Berkeley: University of California Press, 1984
By Zigmond, Maurice L.; Curtis G. Booth, and Pamela Munro
Berkeley: University of California Press, 1984. 399pp. Octavo [25.5 cm] Printed white and orange wrappers. Better than very good. Kawaiisu, a language of the Numic branch of Uto-Aztecan now spoken by only a few people in central California's Kern County, has until now been rather poorly described. Kawaiisu is a member of the Southern Munic subgroup, the other members of which form a dialect chain from Chemehuevi in the west through Southern Paiute to Ute in the east.
