Pro-Palestinian "Al-Djabha: Die Front", 1970-71 Archive
- 1970
1970. [Palestine] [Middle East] Archive of six issues of "Al-Djabha: Die Front", German language magazine published by Der Komitee zur Unterstützung Palästinas (Committee in Support of Palestine) in Aachen, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg, Germany. Archives includes No. 6/7 (1970), No. 8 (1970), No. 9 (1970), No. 10 (1971), No. 11 (1971), and No. 12 (1971). The 1960s and 70s saw a resurgence of scrutiny on the Israel-Palestine conflict following the Six-Day War and mass forced displacement of Palestinians in 1967. Many far-left and socialist organizations came out in support of the Palestinian cause in the 70s, including the Black Panthers. The Committee in Support of Palestine was a Marxist-Leninist organization which advocated for Palestinian autonomy. German-Palestinian relations have had a complicated history due to the ugly history of anti-semitism in Germany and while the Palestinian state is not officially recognized by Germany, it has received support by both far-left and far-right groups for very different reasons. Magazines contain articles relating the Palestinian front as well as some graphic design illustrations and black and white photography on wrappers. One issue with a black and white cover and five with bright red headers. Three issues staplebound and three lacking binding. Overall good to very good condition. A German Marxist-Leninist counterculture magazine in support of Palestine in the 1970s.
