The Complete Angler [and] the Lives of Dr. John Donne, Sir Henry Wotton, Mr. Richard Hooker, Mr. George Herbert, and Dr. Robert Sanderson

London: John Major, 1823 (and) 1825. A matched set of Walton's "Angler" and "Lives," with each being a large paper copy of the first John Major edition. Illustrated throughout with copper engravings on India paper mounted on heavy stock, and full-page wood engravings. Additionally, each volume bears the engraved armorial bookplate of James Wigram, who has also inscribed and signed the title page of "Lives." Wigram was Vice Chancellor of the privy Council, knighted in 1842. His marginal pencil markings identify textual faults, and 9 blank leaves with detailed emendations in ink have been bound in at various places in the "Angler." Both volumes uniformly bound in full morocco with raised bands and gold spine lettering, all edges gilt. An understated but attractive binding..
