Second printing presumed, published in the same year as the first one by John Campbell; 9 x 5 3/4; pp. [3], 6-23; self-wraps; author's name in period manuscript in brown ink to front wrap; loss of paper to lower corners of last two leaves (not affecting text); wraps pulling loose; spotting to back wrap; in about good condition.Benjamin Rush (1811 - 1877), lawyer, author, and grandson of social reformer, physician, educator, Founding Father, and signatory to the Declaration of Independance Benjamin Rush (1746 - 1813) wrote his current letter in support of Captain Wilkes and the Trent Affair - the diplomatic incident in 1861, which almost started a war between the US and England, when the U.S. Navy captured two Confederate envoys from a British Royal Mail steamer.
