Mapping the Himalayas: Michael Ward and the Pundit Heritage

Edition limited to 50 copies (this, no. 45) of the 'Gold' issue; small 4to, pp. 207, [1]; numerous illustrations throughout; fine copy in original red (arbelave) cloth stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine. Accompanied by a 'preprint' of an article by Michael Ward, "Tibet: Human and Medical Geography," pp. 12, 2 illustrations, signed by Ward. Accompanied by a red card sleeve of 44 folding maps, a number printed in color. Three items together in a red cloth (arbelave) slipcase. According to a letter from the publisher, "The book was produced in three forms. 'Gold' copies are cased in red (truncated) arbelave (a pseudo leather which will last indefinitely) tooled in silver. The book, together with a map volume in red card, is enclosed in a red arbelave slip case. Each Gold copy includes a preprint of a Michael Ward article signed by Michael Ward ... Silver copies were as above, but cased (and tooled) in gold, and slipcased in blue wibalin. Again, only 50 were produced and each is numbered and signed by the author. Standard versions are limp covered. Only 235 of these were produced." This copy, while conforming in all respects to the "Gold" issue, is, in fact, lettered in gilt, not silver. (Inventory #: 68287)
