1836. CHILDREN'S BOOK. Petite Histoire grotesque de Pierrot goulu. Engraved title, 122 pp. and 7 plates. Oblong 12mo, 60 x 70 mm., later pink straight grained morocco. Paris, Marcilly: Typographie de Firmin Didot Frères et Cie., 1836. An extremely rare and delightful children's book in the mode of Roald Dahl. The protagonist is a greedy child who steals, cheats and lies in order to satisfy his greed. Unfortunately, his escapades lead to an extremely grisly ending. OCLC lists a copy at the BN and a copy at Princeton consisting of an original uncut folio sheet for the text and a smaller sheet for the plates.
