Wonderfully detailed and handsome map of the French Riviera, spanning from the Languedoc region in the west to Nice in the East. Towns, regions, geographical features and religious landmarks are noted throughout. On the lower left quadrant of the page, it is shown where the Rhone terminates into the Mediterranean Sea. This region is home to many vineyards that yield the majority of France's production of Rose. Bandol, Cotes de Provence, and Coteaux Varois de Provence are just a few of these prolific regions visible on the map. A charming cartouche is (truncated) included in the lower left corner. Even foxing and toning across the page.

Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766) was an important French mapmaker during the 18th century. His "Atlas Universel" was one of the most significant atlases of the period, integrating older sources with more modern surveyed maps in order to convey correct geographical and political information.
