In his twenties, he found himself in Hollywood and became one of the first writers to cover the film scene there. At the same time, he wrote about his experiences on the road and in circuses. Shadows of Men is specifically about men in jail, “where men receive the education of the underworld and go forth in the spirit of vengeance.†It offers more portrayal of Blacks’ experiences than other books in our hobo catalog.
