New York: The Century Company, 1913. First U.S. Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo., 300pp. Solid First American Edition of this Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone title, which haycraft considered the first "Modern" detective story. (Murder For Pleasure p.113). Bound in black cloth with lettering in gilt on spine and frond board. Published originally in the UK with the title "Trent's Last Case". Square, tight and clean throughout save faint water-staining to the fore-edge and a thin strip of the edge of several pages. But no toning or foxing. Mild wear to edges and tips. Spine gilt dulling. A very solid, collectable cop at a great price. (Hubin, p. 31).
