Leningrad: Izdatelstvo Akademii Nauk SSSR, 1926. First Edition. Very good. First edition, 1 of 1000 copies; 11 1/2 x 8 1/2; pp. [1], 4-163, [1]; olive-green wraps, printed and ruled in black; illustrated with numerous photographs, tables, drawings and maps, including large fold-out ones; a few chips and nicks to edges of wraps with minor loss of paper; small rubbed spot to title page verso; in about very good condition. An ambitious endeavour, the book was the first, stand-alone tome of three, presenting a series of expeditions and studies by several prominent Soviet scientists in Mongolia, up to that time largely unknown and scarcely described in Russia. The trips had been prompted by and authorized after famous explorer Petr Kozlov's (1863 - 1935) discovery of an unprecedented number of Xiongnu royal burials and his bringing numerous artifacts back to Russia in 1924.
